Bonito’s are known to be from the Sardini tribe. These mid-sized fishes belong to the family of Scombridae. These fishes resemble closely with the Shipjack Tuna that belongs to the same family.
Along with the Shipjack Tuna, some of its other family members are Mackerel, Tuna, Spanish Mackerel and Butterfly kingfish. All such fishes have two dorsal fins and have white bellies.
The Bonito fishes are further categorized into eight species across four genera namely Cybiosarda (Whitley, 1935), Gymnosarda Gill, 1862, Orcynopsis Gill, 1862, Sarda (Cuvier, 1832).
